At first, the level starts out at a hill on a layout similar to 1-1. At the bottom of the hill, there are 2 brick blocks and a ? block. There is also a pipe that Mario can enter. After entering the pipe, Mario arrives in a cave-like area with tilting platform. In the next area, there is another tilting platform on the top and Mario must wall jump or propellor to get the first star coin. In the next area, there is a POW and many blocks. Later on, there is another pipe that leads to brick blocks and coins. In one of the blocks, there is a P switch which turns coins into blocks and blocks into coins. After activating the switch, Mario should jumped into the temporary blocks onto the upper platform to get the second star coin. When you come out of the pipe, ground pound to go into the lower area. There is a star in one of the areas. Then, you can reach the checkpoint. Later, with a place with many piranha plants and you see the star coin but is not accessible. You must ground pound as Super Mario or a higher level Mario to get into a pipe. In the next area, you see many coins but not the star coin. You also see some enemies and a POW block. Ground pounding it or throwing it will let you access the star coin. If you go up the pipe and head to the next area, you can see a red ring and a player controlled bridge. Then, you can enter the pipe that takes you to the end of the stage to the flagpole.
- Star Coin 1: After entering the pipe, continue walking until you see the star coin next to a high tilting platform. Wall jump or use the propellor to get the coin.
- Star Coin 2: Before the checkpoint, there is an accessible pipe. Go in it and you see a block. Hit the block and a P switch comes out. Activate it and reach the top before time runs out to get the coin.
- Star Coin 3: After the checkpoint in the are with many pipes, go in the one that is blocked by brick blocks and groundpound (only accessed by Super Mario or higher). After going in, use the POW block to make the coin fall.
